Toward an Integrated Process Model of Psychosis

February 15, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Abstract: Dr. Cornelius explores the hypothesis that psychosis is as an information processing problem centered around the breakdown of neurologic processes that convert sensory input into symbolic memory. In this exploration he endeavors to demonstrate the benefit of the ongoing integration of neuroscience, psychoanalysis and other fields.

Bio: John Thor Cornelius, MD, a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist in private practice in Sacramento, trained at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, and is a member of the International Psychoanalytic Society. He teaches in the Department of Psychiatry at UC Davis, and is interested in the integration of psychiatry and neuroscience with the work of Bion, Winnicott, and contemporary field theorists. In his practice, Cornelius treats severe psychic distress, including psychotic disorders, from a psychoanalytic perspective.
