Movie Mania – Viewing and discussion of Beautiful Boy
May 11 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
We’d like to invite you to our upcoming screening of Beautiful Boy on Saturday, May 11, 4 pm, at White Hall 205 on the Emory University campus.
Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, director Felix van Groeningen creates a biographic drama chronicling the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. You can find a trailer to the film here: https://youtu.be/
The movie will be followed by a brief talk by Dr. Stefanie Speanburg, PhD, LCSW, FABP and a Q&A with Dr. Brigitte Manteuffel, opiod expert and parent coach as well as senior research associate at the Georgia Health Policy Center.
These conversations among the audience members focus on the various analytic, narrative and emotional themes explored by the movie. We aim to create a relaxed, intellectual and active space for movie-watching and discussion!
Beautiful Boy has been picked especially to spark discussions around themes that are going to be studied and understood in depth at the inaugural Catherine Shropshire Hardman Symposium for the Advancement of Clinical Psychoanalysis and Interdisciplinary Research: Struggling to Connect: Addiction, Attachment, and the Self on the weekend of Friday, June 7, 2019-Saturday, June 8, 2019. Please find more information at: http://atlantapsychoanalysis.
The Goodrich C White Hall is located at 301 Dowman Dr. Atlanta, GA 30322. The location is wheelchair-accessible, and there is plenty of free parking available on campus after 5 pm. Take a look at these webpages for more detailed parking information: http://arts.emory.edu/plan-
